# Campaigns and Budgets

> Learn how to create an ad campaign and set its budget.

## Who is this guide for?

This guide is for anyone who creates and manages campaigns with an **Advertiser** or **Admin** account.

* You want to create an ad campaign
* You want to set an ad goal (impressions/clicks/conversions)
* You want to set and manage a campaign budget

***

## Before you begin

<Note>
  The following conditions must be met:

  * Access to the A2 admin console (Campaign read/write permission)
  * **Sufficient balance** in your account (required to set a budget)
  * Ideally, creatives ready to go (you can also register them later)
</Note>

***

## What is a campaign?

A campaign is **a single advertising project**.

For example:

* A "Spring 2024 new product promotion" campaign
* A "Sign-up event" campaign
* A "Brand awareness" campaign

For each campaign, you set a goal, budget, and schedule, and you can register multiple creatives.

## Step 1: Create a campaign

### Enter basic information

1. In the **Campaign** menu, click **Create New Campaign**.
2. Enter the following information:

| Field | English | Description | Example |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Campaign name** | Campaign Name | An easy-to-identify name | "Spring 2024 new product promotion" |
| **Description** | Description | A note about the campaign (optional) | "For the March new product launch" |
| **Start date** | Start Date | Date and time the ads start | 2024-03-01 00:00 |
| **End date** | End Date | Date and time the ads end | 2024-03-31 23:59 |

<Tip>
  Enter the start and end dates in Korea Standard Time (KST).
</Tip>

***

## Step 2: Choose an ad goal

Choose the campaign's goal. The system optimizes your ads based on the goal.

### Goal types (Goal Type)

| Goal | English | When to choose it | Optimizes for |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Impressions** | Impression | You want to reach as many people as possible | Ad impressions |
| **Clicks** | Click | You want to drive traffic to your website or app | Ad clicks |
| **Conversions** | Conversion | You want to drive a specific action, such as a purchase or sign-up | Conversion actions |

***

## Step 3: Set a sub goal (Sub Goal)

If you chose the **Impressions** goal, you can also choose a sub goal.

### Sub goal options

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Maximum impressions">
    Spends the entire budget over the set period and delivers **as many impressions as possible**.

    | Setting | Description |
    | - | - |
    | **Max Bid** | The most you will pay per impression (optional) |

    Example: "Get as many impressions as possible with a budget of 1,000,000 KRW"

    **Typical scenarios:**

    * **Long-running campaigns**: You want to build your brand with steady impressions for a month or longer, such as for a new app or service launch
    * **Planned budget spend**: You don't want any budget left over at the end of the period and want to spread it across many impressions

    <Note>
      If you don't set a max bid, the system automatically determines the optimal bid.
    </Note>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Guaranteed impressions">
    **Guarantees an agreed number of impressions** during the campaign period. The number of impressions, period, and price are contracted in advance, and delivery is driven to meet them.

    | Setting | Description |
    | - | - |
    | **Target Volume** | Total number of impressions to guarantee (required) |

    Example: "Guarantee 1,000,000 impressions over two weeks"

    **Typical scenarios:**

    * **Brand/new product launch**: You need concentrated exposure so a new product clearly stands out for two weeks
    * **Awareness first**: "How many impressions" matters more than clicks or conversions

    <Warning>
      Guaranteed impressions may require a larger budget.
    </Warning>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Target CPM">
    Delivers impressions while holding a **target CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions)**. The system adjusts automatically to get as many impressions as possible at the target CPM.

    | Setting | Description |
    | - | - |
    | **Target CPM** | Target cost per 1,000 impressions (required) |

    Example: "Deliver impressions while holding a CPM of 5,000 KRW"

    **Typical scenarios:**

    * **Cost efficiency first**: Your budget is tight each season, and you want to secure impressions while keeping a reasonable unit price
    * **Avoid overpaying for wins**: You want to keep costs below a set CPM and optimize impressions within that limit
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

***

## Step 4: Set a budget

### Enter the budget

| Field | English | Description |
| - | - | - |
| **Total budget** | Total Budget | Maximum amount to spend over the entire campaign |

### How the budget is deducted

```mermaid theme={null}
flowchart LR
    A[Account balance] -->|Campaign created| B[Campaign budget]
    B -->|Ad impressions/clicks| C[Spent]
    B -->|Campaign ended/canceled| A
```

* **When the campaign is created**: The campaign budget is deducted from your account balance.
* **While ads are running**: The budget is spent based on impressions/clicks.
* **When the campaign ends or is canceled**: Any remaining budget is returned to your account balance.

<Note>
  You can't create a campaign if your account balance is insufficient. Top up your budget first.
</Note>

## Understanding campaign status (Campaign Status)

A campaign can have the following statuses:

| **Archived** | Archived | Campaign ended or deactivated | View performance only |

<Warning>
  When you change a campaign to **Archived**, its budget is set to 0. The remaining budget is returned to your account balance.
</Warning>

***

## Edit a campaign

### Fields you can edit at any time

* Campaign name and description
* Budget increase or decrease
* End date extension

| Field | Editable |
| - | - |
| Start date (if already started) | ❌ Not allowed |

## Budget management tips

### When the budget runs out

When the budget is fully spent, ad delivery stops automatically.

To resolve this:

1. Select the campaign in the **Campaign** menu.
2. Click **Edit budget**.
3. Enter the additional budget.

<Note>
  Your account balance must be sufficient to add budget.
</Note>

### Tips for saving budget

| Method | Effect |
| - | - |
| **Set up targeting** | Improves efficiency by showing ads only to interested users |
| **Frequency Capping** | Prevents overexposure to the same user |
| **Analyze performance** | Identify and adjust low-performing placements/creatives |
