# Allocation Request

> Learn how to request an allocation to run your ads on the placements you want.

## Who is this guide for?

This guide is for anyone requesting ad allocations with an **Advertiser** or **Admin** account.

* Those who want to run a campaign's creatives on specific placements
* Those who want to understand the allocation request process and its current status
* Those who want to know what to do when an allocation request is rejected

***

## Before you begin

<Note>
  The following conditions must be met:

  * Access to the A2 admin console (Allocation read/write permission)
  * The **campaign to allocate must be created** (budget and schedule set)
  * There must be **at least one active creative**
  * You must know the **placement information** you want to request an allocation for
</Note>

***

## What is an allocation?

An allocation **connects a campaign's creatives to a specific placement**.

For an ad to be served:

1. A **campaign** must exist (budget and schedule set),
2. **Creatives** must be registered (images, videos, etc.),
3. An **allocation request** must be made for a **placement**, and
4. The **retailer must approve** it.

## Understanding allocation status

An allocation goes through the following statuses:

```mermaid theme={null}
stateDiagram-v2
    [*] --> Preparing
    Preparing --> Requested: Request approval
    Requested --> Approved: Retailer approves
    Requested --> Rejected: Retailer rejects
    Requested --> Preparing: Withdraw request
    Rejected --> Requested: Edit and resubmit
    Approved --> Finished: Campaign ends
    Approved --> Canceled: Canceled midway
```

| Status | Code | Meaning | What you can do |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Preparing** | PENDING | Allocation created but not yet requested | Edit, delete, request |
| **Requested** | REQUESTED | Approval has been requested from the retailer | Withdraw request |
| **Approved** | PUBLISHED | Retailer approved; ad is serving | - (serving) |
| **Rejected** | REJECTED | Retailer rejected the request | Edit and resubmit |
| **Finished** | FINISHED | Campaign ended normally | Check performance |
| **Canceled** | CANCELED | Canceled and stopped while serving | - |

***

## Step 1: Create an allocation

### Create the allocation

1. In the **Campaign** menu, select the campaign to allocate.
2. On the **Allocation** tab, click **Create New Allocation**.

### Select the required information

| Item | Description |
| - | - |
| **Campaign** | Already selected |
| **Placement** | Where the ad will be shown |
| **Creative** | The ad image/video to show |

***

## Step 2: Set frequency

Limit the ad so it is not shown too many times to the same user.

### Frequency capping

| Setting | Code | Description | Example |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Period** | Period | Period over which impressions are capped | 7 days |
| **Max impressions** | Max Impressions | Maximum number of times the ad is shown to one user in the period | 3 |
| **Stop on click** | Stop on Click | Stop showing the ad again once the user clicks it | On/Off |

Example: "Show the ad to each user at most 3 times over 7 days, and stop showing it once they click"

### Click limit behavior by objective

The **Stop on click** setting behaves differently depending on the campaign objective:

| Campaign objective | Stop on click behavior |
| - | - |
| **Click/conversion objective** | After one click, the ad is no longer shown to that user |
| **Impression objective** | After one impression, the ad is not shown to the same user again |

**Tips:**

* Combining frequency and click limits appropriately can maximize ad effectiveness and improve the user experience.
* It helps prevent abuse and use ad resources efficiently.

<Tip>
  Setting the frequency too low reduces the number of users you can reach. Experiment to find the right balance.
</Tip>

</Warning>

2. In the confirmation popup, click **Request**.
