# Choose an ad type

> Choose a Line Item type for your delivery approach and understand type-specific settings.

An ad type determines how a Line Item uses inventory. Choosing a type changes the goals and steps in the form. Choose a type based on the Order terms, how the ad is sold or guaranteed, and how you plan to use the inventory. A type name alone does not guarantee delivery volume or results.

## Criteria for choosing a type

| Ad type in the form | When to consider it | Settings to review in the create flow |
| - | - | - |
| **Sponsorship** | You need share-based delivery for a defined period | Share (%) and optional maximum impressions |
| **Standard** | You are managing a reserved impression goal or maximizing available volume | Priority, target volume or maximize volume, and **Delivery Interval** |
| **House** | You are delivering your own promotional creative | Optional CPM settings and other displayed fields |
| **Network** | You are running demand from an external ad network | Common fields are name, description, and flight dates. Schedule can be enabled from the edit form after creation. The Line Item form has no type-specific goal, bid, or budget fields. An operator connects the external network in the allocation's **Ad Source Settings**. |
| **Backfill** | You are filling opportunities not used by other demand | Common fields are name, description, and flight dates. Schedule can be enabled from the edit form after creation. The Line Item form has no type-specific goal, bid, or budget fields. Backfill delivers your linked creatives, like House. |

Types marked **Coming soon** in **Add Line Item** cannot be selected. The types you can create now (Sponsorship, Standard, House, Network, Backfill) have no goal selection step. For example, Performance Direct, Bulk, and Price Priority may appear in the menu but cannot be created while marked as coming soon.

## How settings differ by type

* **Sponsorship** asks for a share percentage and can optionally cap impressions. Enter the share within the range accepted by the form.
* **Standard** asks for a priority and an **Impression Strategy**. The available priorities are 6, 8, and 10. The strategies are **Target Volume** and **Maximize Volume**. If you choose Target Volume, enter the volume and pacing.
* For a Standard Line Item with a target volume, choose **Even Delivery**, **Fast Burn**, or **Front Loaded** as the **Delivery Interval**. The Delivery Interval distributes impressions across the period.
* **House**, **Network**, and **Backfill** do not use the same goal and priority fields as Standard. Enter only the fields shown for the selected type. An ad type cannot be changed after the Line Item is created. If you need another type, check with your operator whether to create a new Line Item.

Enter values based on the fields and validation messages shown in the form.

## Choose an ad type

**1. Add a Line Item to the Order**

Open the active `Spring promotion` Order and select **Add Line Item**.

**2. Review the delivery approach**

Check whether the agreement calls for reserved or guaranteed delivery, house promotion, or external network demand. Confirm that the type is selectable in the form.

**3. Enter type-specific goals and delivery settings**

Use a recognizable name such as `Promotion banner`. Enter the goal, period, and budget or target values required for the type. Select available targeting conditions if needed.

**4. Review and create**

Confirm the type, goal, dates, and budget or target values in the summary, then select **Create Line Item**.

For the full sequence and input details, see [Set up a Line Item](https://docs.aiderx.io/guides/for-advertisers/en/line-item-setup.md).

## Next step

After creating the item, review [status changes and ending delivery](https://docs.aiderx.io/guides/for-advertisers/en/lifecycle.md), then [register and link a creative](https://docs.aiderx.io/guides/for-advertisers/en/creative-types.md).

For network connection steps, see [Connect an ad network](https://docs.aiderx.io/guides/for-retailers/en/ad-sources.md). The Line Item form does not connect the network; an operator configures **Ad Source Settings** on an inventory allocation.
